Tamara Nasser: Access Without Understanding Isn’t Progress – The Real Odds of IVF Success

Tamara Nasser, Global Brand Manager of Fertility and Obstetrics at Besins Healthcare, shared on LinkedIn:

“29%. That’s how many young women knew the actual odds IVF works for a 35-year-old.

New research just confirmed what a lot of us in this industry already suspected: an entire generation is entering their fertile years with almost no accurate understanding of fertility.

A recent survey of women aged 18–27 found that only 29% knew the IVF success rate for a 35-year-old. Fewer than a third could correctly estimate the likelihood of miscarriage…a number that’s actually gotten worse over the last decade, not better.

Not because they don’t care. Because nobody built the education layer for them.

We built clinics. We built treatments. We built awareness campaigns with the right hashtags and the right colors. What we didn’t build is a generation that understands its own biology well enough to make informed decisions before a crisis moment forces the conversation…

This isn’t a Gen Z problem. It’s the result of an industry that has spent decades optimizing for treatment and access, and treated education as an afterthought, something a patient picks up in a waiting room pamphlet, if at all.

If we’re serious about improving outcomes, health literacy can’t stay downstream of everything else.
It has to be part of the product, not a footnote to it.

Access without understanding isn’t progress. It’s a gap we’ve just gotten used to, and one we, as an industry, are responsible for closing.”
