Trishdeep Grewal: A 19-Week Fetal Ultrasound Demonstrated a Skin-Covered, Avascular Cystic Lesion in the Sacrococcygeal Region
Trishdeep Grewal, Consultant Fetal Medicine at Jindal IVF, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“A 19-week fetal ultrasound demonstrated a skin-covered, avascular cystic lesion in the sacrococcygeal region.
Key findings:
- Avascular cystic lesion
- Intact skin covering the lesion
- Neural placode identified
- No intracranial signs of open spinal dysraphism
What would be your leading diagnosis and differential?
Fetal MRI was recommended for further characterization; however, the couple declined further imaging. Therefore, the diagnosis remained based on prenatal ultrasound findings.
Case shared for educational purposes.”
