Vageeshwari Devuni: Fertility Is Not a Moment, It’s a Continuum Shaped by Time, and Lifestyle
Vageeshwari Devuni, Clinical Embryologist at Nova IVF Fertility, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Fertility is not a moment, it’s a continuum shaped by time, and lifestyle.
This visual captures the interconnected journey of human reproduction:
Oocytes:
Women are born with a finite number of oocytes. Over time, these cells experience DNA damage, mitochondrial decline, and increased chromosomal abnormalities, making age a critical determinant of egg quality.
Sperm:
Produced continuously, yet highly sensitive to external influences. Factors such as stress, heat, environmental toxins, and poor diet can impact sperm count, motility, and DNA integrity often in ways not immediately visible.
Embryology:
Early embryonic development depends on the quality of both gametes, with a strong reliance on maternal cytoplasmic resources. The earliest cell divisions are crucial and set the foundation for successful implantation and development.
Environmental toxins, junk food, stress, and delayed parenthood collectively influence reproductive outcomes, highlighting that fertility is as much about lifestyle.
Reproductive health should be viewed proactively, not reactively.
Awareness of how everyday choices impact cellular health is essential for improving fertility outcomes.”
