Marco Zaccaria: Why Do Uterine Fibroids Trigger Heavy Bleeding?

Marco Zaccaria, Global Product Manager at H.S. Hospital Service SpA, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Why do uterine fibroids trigger heavy bleeding

Researchers have identified multiple mechanisms, often working together at the same time:

  1. Larger uterine surface area: fibroids expand the surface of the uterine lining, meaning more tissue sheds and more blood is lost, during esch cycle
  2. Chaotic blood vessels growth: fibroids trigger irregular new blood vessel formation and these vessels are structurally fragile and prone to leaking and breaking
  3. Venous lackes and blocked flow: physical pressure from fibroids can create enlarged blood-filled pools (venous lakes) in the endometrium and disrupt the uterus’s natual ablity to stop bleeding.”
