Claire Meek։ New Lancet Series on GLP-1 Receptor Agonists in Women’s Health
Claire Meek, Professor of Chemical Pathology and Diabetes in Pregnancy at the University of Leicester, shared a post on LinkedIn about papers she co-authored with colleagues published in The Lancet Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Women’s Health:
“Women are among the biggest users of GLP-1 receptor agonists.
But where is the evidence designed specifically for women?
Today we publish a new Lancet Series on GLP-1 receptor agonists in women’s health, covering:
- Pregnancy, preconception and postnatal care
- Global access, safety and equity
- Menopause and healthy ageing
- The changing role of bariatric surgery in the GLP-1 era
Across all four papers, one message is consistent: women’s use of GLP-1 therapies has expanded faster than the evidence base supporting their use across key life stages.
We highlight what we know, what we do not know, and the research priorities needed to guide care for millions of women worldwide.
With many new incretin agents in the pipeline, we urgently need to address evidence gaps and structural access barriers to ensure women internationally have safe, healthy, and equitable care.
