How Estrogen Influences SLE Across a Woman’s Lifespan – The Lupus Foundation of Australasia
The Lupus Foundation of Australasia shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Oestrogen and Lupus: Why It Matters
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is the most common form of lupus, and affects women at significantly higher rates. SLE affects many women, and changes in oestrogen levels can influence symptoms and flare-ups at different life stages.
From adolescence through to menopause, fluctuations in oestrogen can influence immune response, symptom severity, and flare risk.
Building awareness of these patterns is essential to improving patient education, supporting informed care, and strengthening outcomes for women living with lupus.

Alannah Hibbard, Medical Receptionist at Guardian Medical Pty Ltd, shared THE LUPUS FOUNDATION OF AUSTRALASIA’s post, adding:
“Excited to share that I have recently joined the Lupus Foundation of Australasia as a volunteer medical writer.
This May marked both World Lupus Day and Mother’s Day in Australia. It is an important reminder that lupus predominantly affects women and disease activity can change throughout puberty, pregnancy, and menopause. My first article explores this and unpacks how oestrogen influences lupus activity across the female lifespan.
Through this role I hope to contribute to patient education and advocacy, as well as raise awareness for a rare but debilitating disease. A huge thank you to the Lupus Foundation for this opportunity.”
