Anu Chawla: PICSI in Focus, What the HABSelect Trial Revealed?
Anu Chawla, Chairperson at Federation of obstetrics and Gynaecological Societies of India, shared a post on LinkedIn:
- The HABSelect Trial is the largest randomised study evaluating PICSI.
- It included 2,722 couples across 16 UK fertility centres.
- PICSI did not significantly improve overall live birth rates compared with standard ICSI.
- PICSI was associated with a lower miscarriage rate (14% vs 22%), representing approximately a 38% relative reduction.
- Current international guidelines do not recommend routine PICSI for every patient, but selected individuals may benefit.
- Treatment decisions should always be personalised following discussion with a fertility specialist.
