How ‘Abnormal’ Embryos Can Lead to Healthy Babies – Fertility Plus
Fertility Plus shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by Mengyi Zhu et al. published in Frontiers in Endocrinology:
“New research finds that blastocysts from 0-pronuclear and 1-pronuclear zygotes – once discarded in IVF – can actually lead to healthy pregnancies. In a review of over 18,000 oocytes, formation rates for 0PN embryos equaled 32% (vs 32% for normal 2PN), with no increase in birth defects. Genetic testing prior to transfer is key, but leveraging this ‘untapped pool’ could reduce wasted embryos and improve patient care. How will this shape future IVF practices? Join the discussion!
