“Dignity-Based Care and Infertility Treatment: A Qualitative Study
Published in PLOS ONE, October 2025
Infertility treatment is not only a medical challenge but an emotional and ethical journey that demands dignity-preserving care.
This new qualitative study by Zahra Kiani, Masoumeh Simbar, Soheila Nazarpour, and Vida Ghasemi explores how dignity can be integrated into infertility treatment services. Through interviews with infertile women, men, and key informants, four major dimensions of dignity-based care were identified: Conserving dignity throughout care delivery, Providing accessible information and ensuring informed consent, Delivering professional and standard services and Respecting cultural and social contexts of infertility.
These findings highlight the importance of compassionate, patient-centered approaches that value individuals beyond their diagnosis. The concept of dignity-based care offers a roadmap for improving reproductive health services and guiding future policy and practice.”
