Thorsten Waloschek, CEO of NeoPredics AG, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“A new study from The Lancet Rheumatology caught my attention this week.
It examines pregnancy outcomes in women with systemic sclerosis and highlights a reality we still need to confront. Even with a high live birth rate, the risks for mothers remain significantly elevated, particularly when it comes to preeclampsia, placental insufficiency, preterm birth, and severe postpartum complications.
Pregnancy places an extraordinary cardiovascular demand on the body, and for women with underlying autoimmune or vascular conditions, those risks can rise sharply. What concerns me most is that nearly 40 percent of pregnancies in the study showed worsening disease during pregnancy or within the first year postpartum. It reinforces something many in maternal health already know: we still lack effective, accessible tools for early risk detection.”
