Vitamin D Deficiency Worsens Hormones Not IVF Results – Fertility Plus
Fertility Plus shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Vitamin D Deficiency Worsens Androgen Levels in PCOS – But IVF Pregnancy Rates
A recent study involving 725 women with PCOS undergoing IVF or ICSI treatment revealed some crucial insights about vitamin D deficiency and androgen levels.
Key Takeaways:
- Women with low vitamin D showed higher levels of androstenedione, a key androgen, along with modestly elevated testosterone and AMH.
- Despite these hormonal differences, clinical pregnancy rates and early miscarriage rates were nearly identical between those with and without vitamin D deficiency.
What We Learned
Vitamin D deficiency is linked to worse hyperandrogenism – particularly elevated androstenedione – in women with PCOS, yet it does not negatively affect clinical pregnancy or early miscarriage rates during IVF/ICSI treatment. This suggests that while vitamin D deficiency may aggravate hyperandrogenism in PCOS, it doesn’t appear to hinder IVF/ICSI success rates!
