“Today is World Sickle Cell Day.
Sickle cell disease is a risk factor for preeclampsia. Sickle cell disease is a group of inherited blood disorders that cause red blood cells to become rigid, sticky, and crescent-shaped. A risk factor doesn’t mean that patients will automatically get preeclampsia; it is a warning sign to watch and evaluate for low-dose aspirin in pregnancy.
