Revolutionizing Testicular Cell Cultivation with 3D Bioprinting – School of Infection, Inflammation and Immunology, University of Birmingham
School of Infection, Inflammation and Immunology, University of Birmingham shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Exploring 3D bio-printing to create a functional growth environment for testicular cells.
The University of Birmingham Dubai, in collaboration with researchers from Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU), are pioneering a ground-breaking project to create a 3D in vitro culture environment for testicular cells.
Testicular tissue preservation may be required in males undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or other medical treatments that carry a high risk of permanent infertility.
If the preserved cells can be cultured in a 3D matrix that resembles the in vivo niche, there is greater propensity of transformation of these germ cells into gametes.
This innovative approach led by Sreepoorna Pramodh will leverage advanced 3D bioprinting technology, supporting proper germ cell development and maturation. By mimicking the natural testis structure, bioprinting holds immense potential for in vitro gamete formation, with the potential to offer future fertility solutions for patients at risk of permanent infertility.
Beyond fertility preservation, this 3D germ cell culture model promises to benefit broader fields of medicine and public health, by serving as a powerful tool for testing pharmaceuticals and environmental toxins, enhancing toxicology research and ensuring the safety of various compounds.
By bridging a vital gap in male reproductive medicine, this ambitious work offers hope to diverse patient groups and sets the stage for broader innovation in regenerative science and precision health.
Join us in our mission to transform the future of fertility preservation and improve the lives of countless patients. To know more about topics such as Reproduction and Fertility Preservation offered in the Biomedical Sciences Program visit – Biomedical Science BSc (Dubai).”
