Nyakaishiki Mercy: Pregnant Women Shouldn’t Get Leave From Work
Nyakaishiki Mercy, Senior Data Specialist at Reign Limited, shared a post on LinkedIn:
” ‘Pegnant women shouldn’t get leave from work.’
Two years ago, I read these words from a post made by one of the female journalists in Uganda and thought little of them. But after living through hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition so severe that made even daily life unbearable, I realized how dangerous pregnancy complications can truly be.
Conditions like preeclampsia and severe nausea(hyperemesis gravidarum) aren’t “just part of pregnancy”,they put thousands of mothers’ lives at risk every day. This reality inspired my research on predictive technologies that could detect risks early and save lives.
We need a world where innovation meets compassion, where healthcare anticipates complications and intervenes on time. Early detection isn’t just a statistic-it’s the difference between life and loss.
Pregnancy should be a journey of joy, not danger. Let’s raise awareness, empower women and protect every mother through technology.”
