Plasma Energy Ablation vs. Laparoscopic Cystectomy in Unilateral Ovarian Endometrioma – RBMO
Reproductive BioMedicine Online (RBMO) shared a post on LinkedIn:
“In this retrospective cohort study comparing plasma energy ablation (PEA) with laparoscopic cystectomy (CC) for unilateral ovarian endometriomas (OMAs), the authors observed no significant differences in recurrence rates on the operated ovary over a 48-month follow-up.
This remained consistent after adjustment for several postoperative variables that may influence recurrence, such as hormonal suppression therapy, ovarian stimulation, and pregnancies.
These findings show recurrence rates for PEA that are comparable to those reported in previous studies at similar time points, however, the study is the first to report on extended follow-up specifically designed to directly compare PEA and CC in the context of unilateral OMA surgery, thereby allowing for a more precise assessment of surgery-associated recurrence.
