Anabel Salazar: Breakthrough in In Vitro Embryo Implantation Model

Anabel Salazar, Medical Director at IVI Madrid, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by Matteo A. Mole et al. published in Cell:

“Embryo implantation has historically been one of the most difficult processes to study in humans. A recent paper published in Cell describes a key breakthrough: an in vitro model of functional human endometrium capable of allowing the implantation of early human embryos.

This system reproduces:

  • Endometrial architecture
  • Hormonal response
  • Real embryo-endometrial interaction after adhesion

Clinical and scientific relevance:

  • Improves our understanding of implantation failure
  • It opens new avenues of translational research
  • Reduces dependence on animal models
  • Brings the possibility of more personalized IVF strategies closer

Advances such as this reinforce the idea that the future of assisted reproduction lies in better understanding the environment where implantation occurs, not just the embryo.”

Title: Modeling human embryo implantation in vitro
