“Could a Simple Blood Test Transform Gynecologic Cancer Detection?
What if a blood sample could reveal clues about cancer before symptoms appear?
It sounds futuristic – but researchers are already exploring ways to detect molecular signals of gynecologic cancers through blood.
The emerging field of liquid biopsy is changing how scientists think about cancer detection.
What Could a Blood Test Look For?
- Circulating Tumor DNA (ctDNA)
Cancer cells can release fragments of DNA into the bloodstream. Detecting and analyzing these molecular changes may provide clues about the presence or characteristics of a tumor.
- Circulating Biomarkers
Researchers are investigating proteins, RNA, methylation patterns, and other molecular signatures that could help distinguish cancer-related changes.
- AI + Multi-Omics
Combining molecular data with artificial intelligence may help identify complex patterns that are difficult to detect using a single biomarker.
- Earlier Detection and Monitoring
Liquid biopsy is being studied not only for detection, but also for monitoring treatment response and identifying molecular changes associated with recurrence.
But Here’s the Catch
A promising blood test is not automatically a reliable screening test.
