Callista Mulder: Fertility and Fatherhood After Childhood Cancer
Callista Mulder, Principle Investigator at Amsterdam UMC, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper published in Reproduction and Fertility:
“As reproductive biologists, Jillis van Maaren and I embarked on a qualitative study talking to survivors about becoming a father after childhood cancer. The young men from this cohort had a testicular biopsy cryopreserved at Amsterdam UMC in the hope of fulfilling their desires of biological parenthood later in life.
To me, the conversations with these young men were special and meaningful, giving a face to the young men for whom we develop fertility treatments in the lab.
They shared their perspectives on their (parents’) decision to have a biopsy, parenthood after childhood cancer, and their thoughts on possibly using their preserved tissue for future fertility restoration. Want to know more?
The paper that we wrote on this study is out now as an accepted manuscript.
Thanks to all co-authors and collaborators on this project, and of course the men who participated!
