She Waited Nearly 2 Years for a Baby: The Research Said She Didn’t Need To – Fertility Plus

Fertility Plus shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by  J. A. Wessel et al. published in Human Reproduction:

“She Waited Nearly Two Years for a Baby. The Research Said She Didn’t Need To.

A 34-year-old woman had normal tests, clear tubes and good sperm results. Doctors called it unexplained. Her GP said keep trying. Her gut said something was wrong.

Researchers followed 178 couples in exactly this situation. Half continued trying naturally for six months. The other half had gentle IUI with light ovarian stimulation.

The difference was clear. 33% of the IUI group had a live birth. Only 13% of the natural-conception group did.

She was in the 13%. Two years later, she had a daughter after IUI. She wished she had known the numbers earlier.

For couples whose chance of conceiving naturally in the next year is already low, waiting is often the less effective choice.

If this sounds like your story, speak to your consultant about whether more time is still the right plan.”
