Shilpa Jesudason: The Need for Kidney Function Checks in Pregnancy
Shilpa Jesudason, Head of Unit at Central Adelaide, shared a post on the LinkedIn about a paper published in Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation:
“Should women have kidney function checked before pregnancy? You might think yes, no brainer! But we need evidence to confirm utility this helps predict adverse pregnancy outcomes – and our research group are working on just that! Led by Laura Cuthbertson, Matthew Jose and team, using a unique linked dataset from Tasmania, we found:
- Early signs of KD in 10% of mums
- Women with suspected CKD had worse pregnancy outcomes
- Urine albumin testing rates were very low
