Masoud Zamani Esteki: The Key Knowledge Gaps in Modern Ovarian Biology

Masoud Zamani Esteki, Associate Professor at Maastricht University, shared a post on LinkedIn by ESHRE Journals about a recent paper he co-authored with colleagues published in Human Reproduction Update:

“Proud of Darina Obukhova for conducting this great work! And grateful to all the authors, Marina Loid, Marieke Schor, Han Brunner, and Andres Salumets.

In this work, we identified key knowledge gaps in modern ovarian biology by evaluating omics studies across the human lifespan, from fetal development to post-menopause, and provided guidelines for conducting robust and reproducible research for ovarian research and reproductive medicine. We specifically highlighted the potential of integrative multi-omics and AI-driven approaches for future studies to advance the field. Stay tuned for upcoming research papers in this direction.

This work was supported by GROW – Research Institute for Oncology and Reproduction systematic review grant, excellent involvement of Maastricht University, Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences library, and NESTOR- Innovation in Reproductive Healthcare project funded by the European Commission.”

Quoting ESHRE Journals’ post:

“Just published in Human Reproduction Update

As reproductive medicine enters the era of multi-omics and AI, understanding the ovary has never been more important. This comprehensive review synthesizes over 120 studies spanning the ovarian lifecycle – from fetal development to postmenopause – to reveal what we know, where the gaps remain, and why standardisation is urgently needed.

By highlighting the potential of artificial intelligence and multi-omic data integration, the review provides a roadmap for advancing ovarian biology, improving fertility preservation, and accelerating precision reproductive medicine.

Read the paper in our leading reproductive medicine journal.”
