Mohammad Haddadi: New Insights on Chronic Histiocytic Intervillositis Outcomes
Mohammad Haddadi, Medical Doctor at Aflatoon Clinic, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper published in International Journal of Gynecological Pathology:
“Proud to share our latest publication in the International Journal of Gynecological Pathology, ‘Placental Chronic Histiocytic Intervillositis: Pregnancy Outcomes and Complications – A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis’.
Chronic histiocytic intervillositis (CHI) is a rare but serious placental inflammatory condition with profound implications for pregnancy outcomes. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we synthesized evidence from 12 studies encompassing 568 pregnancies to better quantify maternal and neonatal risks associated with idiopathic CHI.
Key findings:
- 40% pooled frequency of intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR)
- 55% live birth rate
- 20% intrauterine fetal death (IUFD)
- Findings remained consistent in sensitivity analyses restricted to low-risk studies
Our results highlight the substantial burden of adverse outcomes associated with CHI and reinforce the need for early recognition, standardized diagnostic criteria, and targeted management strategies in affected pregnancies.
Grateful to work with an excellent team of collaborators. Looking forward to seeing how these findings contribute to improved placental pathology awareness and maternal–fetal care.
