Fahimeh Ramezani Tehrani: New Findings on Oxidative Stress and PCOS Treatment

Fahimeh Ramezani Tehrani, Professor at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper published in Scientific Reports:

“Excited to Share Our Latest Research!

I am pleased to announce that our new article has been published in Scientific Reports:

‘Therapeutic efficacy of Rosa damascena Mill. on oxidative stress parameters and cyclooxygenase-2 gene expression in estradiol valerate-induced polycystic ovarian syndrome in Wistar rats’

DOI: 10.1038/s41598-025-17484-2

What we explored:

  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine disorders in women of reproductive age.
  • Oxidative stress plays a key role in its pathogenesis.
  • We investigated the therapeutic potential of Rosa damascena extract in a rat model of PCOS.

Key findings:

  • Higher doses of Rosa damascena extract (800 and 1200 mg/kg/day) significantly improved oxidative stress markers.
  • Reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels decreased.
  • Cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox2) gene expression was notably reduced.
  • The effects were comparable to metformin, a standard treatment.

Why it matters:

Our results highlight the potential of Rosa damascena as a natural therapeutic agent for alleviating PCOS complications, partly through regulating oxidative stress pathways.

I am grateful to my co-authors and collaborators for their contributions to this work. Looking forward to further discussions and future research in this area.”
