Leah Flatman: Patterns of Use and Discontinuation for TNF Inhibitors in Pregnant Women
Leah Flatman, Postdoctoral Fellow at Centre de recherche Azrieli du CHU Sainte-Justine, shared a post by The Journal of Rheumatology on LinkedIn:
“I am very grateful to The Journal of Rheumatology for publishing our recent study on TNF inhibitor use during pregnancy: Patterns of Use and Discontinuation for Tumor Necrosis Factor Inhibitors in Pregnant Women: Insights From a Real-World Sample.
I am also grateful to Laura Andreoli, Mette Julsgaard, and Karen Schreiber for their thoughtful commentary. Together, our articles highlight a key reality in pregnancy research: it has taken over a decade for TNF inhibitors to be used confidently in pregnancy, underscoring the need to generate safety data earlier in drug development.
We fully agree that better-informed decisions start with stronger evidence early on. Integrating pregnancy data into clinical development could make a real difference for women with chronic diseases who are planning a family.
It’s encouraging to see regulatory frameworks evolving, and collaborations between researchers, clinicians, and regulators will be essential to ensuring safe and effective treatments for mothers and babie.”
