Oxidative Stress and Sperm Function in IVF Media – RBMO
Reproductive BioMedicine Online (RBMO) shared a post on LinkedIn:
“This new study from Emma Pyneandee, John Aitken and colleagues, investigates the antioxidant capacity of commercially available IVF culture media using the recently developed RoXsta™ monitoring system.
The antioxidant properties of such media are currently of great interest because assisted reproductive technology (ART) laboratory environments are known to contribute to the generation of oxidative stress, while many of the individuals seeking help with their infertility are already in a state of redox imbalance.
The results of the study emphasize the importance of antioxidant activity in supporting sperm function in vitro. As albumin is the only antioxidant available to these cells in current media formulations, an opportunity exists to optimize how such protection is delivered in the future.
Published open access, the paper can be read in full for free from our June issue, now.”
