From the Shadow of Pregnancy Loss to a New Pregnancy – RBMO

Reproductive BioMedicine Online (RBMO) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This new article from Emily Koert, Rebecca Mackel, Tanja Schlaikjær Hartwig, Lone Schmidt, and Henriette Svarre Nielsen offers insight into how couples navigate the transition from pregnancy loss to planning another pregnancy

Couples’ responses in this interview-based studd show that pregnancy loss is not a single health event, but an experience that impacts their view of a new pregnancy, emotional readiness and needs for medical care.

The findings challenge the notion that readiness is an end state and that grief should be fully processed before considering a new pregnancy.

The article comments on the gaps in medical care where guidance and reassurance about a new pregnancy can be provided, and opportunities to encourage coping strategies to manage the anticipatory fear of another PL, which the authors note is an important factor in their emotional readiness for a new pregnancy.

RBMO subscribers can read the full paper ahead of press from our September issue now.”
