Nicole Basta: Updated Evidence for Covid-19, RSV, and Influenza Vaccines for 2025–2026

Nicole Basta, Associate Professor of Epidemiology at McGill University, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by Jake Scott et al. published in NEJM:

“Wondering if it’s worth it to get a Flu, COVID-19, and/or RSV shot this year?

We did the research, so you don’t have to! And the answer is – Yes, it’s worth it!

Our review of over 500 of the most recently published studies revealed important benefits of these vaccines, including:

  • Flu vaccination can reduce the risk of hospitalization by nearly 70% in children and by about 50% in adults, including adults 65 yrs and older (with high-dose vaccine).
  • COVID-19 vaccination can reduce the risk of hospitalization by about half among all adults, including older adults. Adults with immunocompromising conditions can also benefit with the risk of hospitalization reduced by just under 40%.
  • RSV vaccination during pregnancy can reduce the risk of hospitalization for infants by 70%; Similar reduction in risk for vaccinated older adults, as well.

The safety profiles for each of these vaccines continue to demonstrate that serious adverse events are very, very rare.

Check out all of the details for yourself NEJM Group.”
