Han McDonald: Endometriosis Is More Than ‘Just Bad Periods’
Han McDonald, Program Officer at Allen Family Philanthropies, shared a post by Science Magazine on LinkedIn about a paper by Katherine Ellis et al. published in Front Glob Womens Health:
“I was struck by this Science piece on endometriosis, especially the way the scientist’s own pain shaped her search for answers. Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 reproductive-age women, yet its burden on health, work, fertility, and daily life is still too often minimized.
I’m especially interested in the immunology angle here – it reinforces that endometriosis is a complex, systemic disease, not ‘just bad periods.’ That’s exactly why sustained federal investment in research matters (not just an estimated $2-3 per patient per year): we need better tools, better treatments, and faster progress for patients who have waited far too long.”
Quoting Science Magazine’s post:
“A scientist is helping uncover the role of the immune system in endometriosis – while managing the disease herself.
