Rare Cases of Endometriosis in Men – Meliodays Medical
Meliodays Medical shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Real talk: men can get endometriosis too.
Yes, it’s rare, but it’s real. Let’s check the facts.
1. What is endometriosis?
It’s a chronic condition where tissues grow outside the uterus, causing inflammation, scar tissue, and often severe pain.
2. Who does it affect?
It affects roughly 1 in 10 women of reproductive age.
But there are cases where it happened in men as well.
3. So who are the men affected?
A) Hormone therapy: men who underwent long-term estrogen therapy for prostate cancer
B) Liver conditions: such as cirrhosis, which prevents the body from clearing estrogen
C) Metabolic shifts: where obesity leads to elevated aromatase levels
In every case, the common thread is the same: estrogen.
That’s an important connection. Once active, the tissue produces its own estrogen.
That estrogen triggers inflammation. That inflammation triggers more estrogen. The fire creates its own fuel.
If endometriosis can appear in people without a uterus, there’s clearly more to this disease than we currently understand.
Given that women already wait an average of 7 to 10 years for a diagnosis, the diagnostic gap for men is probably even wider.
That’s why better research, better awareness, and better treatment options are so important.
