Temiko Zhorzholadze: Euploid Embryo Is Not a Guarantee
Temiko Zhorzholadze, Senior Embryologist at Reproart Clinic, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“A euploid embryo is not a guarantee.
Even when PGT-A shows a euploid result, implantation and live birth are not assured. Beyond chromosomal status, embryo competence is influenced by factors like mitochondrial function, epigenetics, and developmental dynamics.
There is also a biological limitation we should acknowledge: PGT-A analyzes a small number of trophectoderm (TE) cells, not the inner cell mass (ICM) that forms the fetus. Studies have shown that while TE and ICM are often concordant, discordance can occur due to mosaicism, meaning different cell populations may exist within the same embryo.
In other words, a “euploid” result reflects the sampled cells — not necessarily the entire embryo.
Euploidy increases chance. It does not guarantee outcome.”
