Blood Inflammation Markers May Not Reliably Detect Endometriosis – Fertility Plus
Fertility Plus shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Important Update on Endometriosis Diagnosis! Blood Tests Look Normal, Endometriosis Doesn’t: Inflammation Stays Local
Recent research reveals that common blood inflammation markers like IL‑6, IL‑8, and TNF‑α are not elevated in individuals with surgically confirmed endometriosis, even in cases of moderate to severe disease. This highlights a crucial point: these cytokine tests are NOT reliable for diagnosing, staging, or classifying endometriosis.
Why? Because most inflammation remains localized in the pelvis and does not enter the bloodstream. Thus, laparoscopy and advanced imaging techniques remain essential for accurate diagnosis and effective management of this condition.
