EFS Highlights Menopause as a New Chapter, Not an End
The European Fertility Society (EFS) shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Today, on World Menopause Day, we at the Fertility Society for Patient Care pause to reflect: menopause is not an end – it’s a new chapter.
Menopause marks the natural transition when a woman’s reproductive years wind down. But its effects go far beyond fertility. It touches bones, heart health, metabolism, mental health, sleep, and much more.
Why We Care
Many women approaching menopause are also navigating fertility, family planning, or assisted reproduction. Understanding this intersection is vital for tailored care.
Autoimmunity, hormonal shifts, and metabolic changes during perimenopause and menopause can influence overall health and reproductive legacy.
Patient care during this stage must be holistic: addressing not just hot flashes or bone density, but emotional well-being, cardiovascular risk, and long-term quality of life.
What Patients Should Know
- It’s a spectrum – symptoms and timing vary widely. No ‘one size fits all.’
- Lifestyle is crucial – diet, exercise, stress management, sleep, and avoiding smoking/alcohol all modulate how menopause feels.
- Medical support helps – from hormone therapy to non-hormonal options, bone health medications, and mental health support.
- You’re not alone – this phase is shared by millions. Community, education, and open conversation empower.
Let’s break the silence and stigma around menopause. Let’s support research, access to quality care, and compassionate conversation. Because every woman – at every stage – deserves to thrive.
Happy World Menopause Day!”
