The Evolution of Assisted Reproduction in Africa – RBMO

Reproductive BioMedicine Online shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by Silke Dyer et al. published in RBMO:

“This report marks the 10th anniversary of the African Network and Registry for Assisted Reproductive Technology (ANARA), and the fifth report from this first and only multinational and regional ART registry for Africa.

RBMO is proud to publish these reports, which represent and critically inform regional ART development, based on real-world evidence and national, regional and global cooperation.

The data in this iteration includes reports by 63 centres in 14 countries for 2021, and 69 centres in 16 countries for 2022.

Over the 10 years of ANARA’s existence, the annual number of reported cycles increased from 24,317 cycles in 2013 to 52,010 cycles in 2022. Over the same period, the ANARA network has grown from 40 centres to 69 centres, with 108 centres having submitted data at least once. These findings indicate that ART monitoring has been established, and growing, in a region where registry participation is entirely voluntary, most ART centres are in the private health sector, and ART is largely unregulated by governments.

The paper is published open access, available to read in full, from issue 52.2″
