Amreen Singh: IVF Accounts for 2% of All Annual Births in the US
Amreen Singh, Senior Consultant at Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“According to an article published on BBC Future, fewer than half of IVF cycles are successful. However, this revolutionary infertility treatment now accounts for approximately 2% of all annual births in the US. Encouragingly, live birth rates for IVF have seen significant improvement over the years, with rates for women under 38 roughly tripling since the early 1990s, as per UK data.
In the US, the number of live births resulting from assisted reproductive technology – with IVF comprising 99% of such procedures – increased by 1.6 times in 2020 compared to a decade earlier.
Despite these advancements, challenges remain. The live birth rate per embryo transfer cycle for women aged 35 is approximately 30% in the UK and 39% in the US. Across all age groups, only 45% of embryo transfer cycles result in live births in the US, although this is an improvement from 36% in 2011.
These statistics highlight both the progress and the ongoing need for innovation in the field of fertility treatments. For more refer.
