Reem Ebeid: Optimizing IVF Outcomes with Day 5 Blastocyst Biopsy and PGT-A

Reem Ebeid, Embryologist at Egyptian Consultants, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“When performing a Day 5 blastocyst biopsy, it’s essential to carefully determine the angle of the biopsy needle before taking the sample.

As shown in the video, both the direction of the needle and the applied suction pressure are key for cutting the trophectoderm cells precisely without affecting the inner cell mass.

After the biopsy, PGT-A (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy) becomes a crucial step in improving IVF outcomes.

It identifies embryos with the correct number of chromosomes before transfer, allowing only genetically normal embryos to be selected.

Why it matters:

  • Reduces miscarriage risk
  • Increases implantation and live birth rates
  • Shortens time to pregnancy
  • Prevents transfer of chromosomally abnormal embryos

PGT-A is especially useful for:

  • Women over 35 years old
  • Couples with recurrent implantation failure or miscarriage
  • Patients using frozen or previously tested embryos

Choosing PGT-A means making a precise, evidence-based step toward a healthy pregnancy.”
