Ashley Evans: Sometimes, the Thing that Got Me Through Fertility Treatment Wasn’t Positivity…
Ashley Evans, Infertility Advocacy Speaker at ACE Origins, shared on LinkedIn:
“Sometimes, the thing that got me through fertility treatment wasn’t positivity; it was humour.
The kind that makes you laugh because, honestly, the alternative is crying.
Infertility isn’t funny.
The heartache certainly isn’t funny.
But finding moments to laugh doesn’t mean you aren’t taking it seriously. It doesn’t diminish the pain.
My egg collection happened on my husband Al’s birthday.
I was lying in theatre, waiting for the anaesthetic, chatting with the doctor. He noticed it was Al’s birthday and said, ‘Ah, it’s your husband’s birthday. Happy birthday!’
Without missing a beat, I replied:
‘To be honest, this has saved me a job.’
(If you know, you know…)
There I was, in the middle of one of the biggest moments of our fertility journey, laughing and joking.
Because fertility journeys aren’t made up of just one emotion.
They’re messy, complicated, heartbreaking… and sometimes unexpectedly hilarious.
If you’ve been through fertility treatment, what was the funniest or most unexpected moment that made you laugh?
Let’s remind people that joy and laughter can exist in the same story.”
