Lucy Froese։ I See Many Women Begin IVF on a Wing and a Prayer…
Lucy Froese, Fertility and IVF Coach, shared on LinkedIn:
“I see so many women begin IVF on a wing and a prayer.
They do it because they’ve been told it’s their best chance of becoming a mum.
But it can still feel like a roll of the dice.
There are no guarantees.
Just another chance, and the hope that this time, something might finally work.
By the time you reach IVF, you may already feel broken by everything you’ve been through trying to become pregnant naturally.
- Months or years of trying.
- Tracking every sign.
- Watching the calendar.
- Facing disappointment month after month.
So you don’t necessarily begin your IVF cycle feeling positive, excited or emotionally prepared.
You begin it exhausted.
Tense.
Frightened to hope too much.
You focus on getting through the injections.
- Then the scans.
- Then egg collection.
- Then waiting to hear whether any eggs have fertilised.
- Then whether an embryo has developed.
- Then whether there is one to transfer.
You move from one stage to the next, holding your breath and waiting for the next phone call.
There is rarely enough space to process one part before you are faced with the next.
You’re not thinking about how to feel emotionally supported throughout the cycle.
You’re simply trying to get through it.
But what if preparing for IVF wasn’t only about taking the medication and turning up for your appointments?
What if it also meant preparing yourself emotionally for what you’re about to go through?
Dr. Alice Domar’s research found that women who took part in a mind–body programme alongside IVF had higher pregnancy rates than those who received IVF alone.
Her research highlights something that is too often overlooked:
Preparing emotionally for IVF matters too.
You may not be able to take away the uncertainty or control every part of your cycle.
But you can enter it feeling calmer, more emotionally supported and better equipped for each stage, rather than trying to survive it all on a wing and a prayer.”
