“What if some gynecologic diseases are not only about hormones, genes, or anatomy – but also about what inflammation is doing in the background?
Think about endometriosis.
A fragment of endometrial-like tissue appears where it should not.
But the story does not end there.
- The immune system responds.
- Inflammatory signals are released.
- New blood vessels and nerve pathways can develop.
- Pain pathways may become increasingly sensitive.
And suddenly, inflammation is no longer just a reaction.
It may become part of the disease itself.
But there is an important distinction:
Inflammation is not necessarily the cause of every gynecologic disease.
It may be a contributor, consequence, amplifier – or a combination of these, depending on the condition.
And that distinction could matter enormously for treatment.
Because if inflammation helps sustain disease, the future may not be simply about suppressing symptoms.
It could involve understanding:
- Which inflammatory pathways are activated?
- Which patients are most affected?
- Can biomarkers identify disease activity earlier?
- Can treatment target the right pathway without disrupting healthy immunity?
Perhaps one day, instead of asking only:
‘What disease does she have?’
we may also ask:
‘What inflammatory biology is driving her disease?’
At GFWH 2026, this emerging intersection of inflammation, immunology, gynecology, and precision medicine will be given a global stage – bringing experts together to discuss the mechanisms that may shape the next generation of women’s healthcare.
