“Making a Difference․

How culturally responsive care is helping reduce disparities in fertility treatment.

Thanks to an extraordinary partnership between Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Morehouse School of Medicine, and EngagedMD, Fertility Equity modules were built from qualitative and quantitative research capturing lived experiences of Black women actively engaged in fertility care, conducted by Dr. Lasha Clarke, PhD, MPH, Morehouse School of Medicine, Morehouse Maternal Health Equity Center.

Thank you, Progyny and Janet Choi, MD, MSCP, for taking actionable steps to integrate these lessons learned in a way to truly make a difference in providing culturally responsive care to women across the nation in large fertility networks. I am proud and privileged to serve on Progyny’s medical advisory board.

I was privileged to have worked on this remarkable project from start to finish! While it highlights Black women, it reflects the barriers and experiences of other non-white women and LGBTQ persons seeking fertility care. Our goal is to provide care to all patients in a compassionate, holistic way! In a way, they feel seen and heard. Fertility treatment is often a long, painful journey.

I speak from personal experience! The real voices telling their stories made their pain palpable! They highlighted how barriers lead to delays in care or leaving care short of success. Our hope is that these modules are used to elevate and raise awareness of the challenges that have gone mostly unrecognized. If we know better, we can do better.

The FertilityEquity training program is comprised of 26 evidence-based learning modules combining educational content, practical guidance, and real patient stories illustrating care gaps. The curriculum explores disparities in fertility care and delivers actionable strategies to support more equitable patient experiences and outcomes.

Providers and clinics completing the coursework are recognized in the Progyny Provider Search Tool, enabling members to identify practices that have demonstrated a commitment to culturally responsive care.
Members can now more easily identify providers who have invested in culturally responsive fertility care, which is essential to improving both trust and outcomes.

The next frontier is midlife and menopause women’s care!”
