”I wasn’t afraid of needles. I was afraid of phone calls.

During infertility treatment, the physical parts became almost routine. You learn how to do things you once thought you could never do.

But the phone calls from the clinic?

Those never became easy.

Because after enough bad news, you start associating a ringing phone with the possibility that everything just changed.

  • A test result. An embryo update.
  • A pregnancy that stopped progressing.
  • Another cycle that didn’t work.

I remember seeing the clinic’s number and feeling my stomach drop before I even answered.

Sometimes the news was fine.

But my body didn’t know that yet.

It had already learned to prepare for the worst.

People don’t always understand this, but…

  • You don’t only remember what happened.
  • Your body remembers too.
  • A phone call becomes scary.
  • An ultrasound room becomes scary.
  • Sometimes, even good news can feel scary.

Eventually, I stopped being afraid of the treatment itself.

I became afraid of what the treatment might tell me.
