“Post-caesarean sepsis is a leading cause of maternal mortality, with infection rates as high as 20% globally.
The International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics review provides evidence-based strategies to prevent these infections – including antibiotics 30- 60 minutes before surgery, vaginal and skin antiseptic prep, safe surgical practices, like glove changes after placental delivery, and early recognition and rapid treatment to save lives.
With 75,000 maternal deaths annually linked to sepsis, implementing these practices is critical.
