“One of the most mind-blowing things I’ve witnessed in the IVF laboratory…
An embryo was successfully generated and frozen. Later, the couple decided to proceed with PGT-A (aneuploidy screening).
But there was a challenge: the embryos had already been cryopreserved.
So what happened?
The embryos were thawed, biopsied for PGT-A, and then vitrified again while awaiting the genetic results.
When the appropriate embryo was eventually selected for transfer, it was thawed once more. And remarkably, the embryo recovered and re-expanded very well, making it suitable for FET.
Think about that:
Freeze – Thaw – Biopsy – Refreeze – Thaw – Transfer
This is possible with modern vitrification technology, but it is certainly not something to take for granted.
Behind every apparently simple embryo transfer is a combination of:
- Skilled embryology
- Excellent vitrification and warming techniques
- Careful biopsy technique
- Appropriate laboratory protocols
- And, importantly, a competent embryo capable of tolerating the process.
This case reminded me again that embryology is not just about creating embryos—it is about preserving their potential at every stage.
A successful FET begins long before the embryo reaches the uterus.
Sometimes, the real magic happens in the embryology laboratory.
