Devyanshi Dixit: Could We Prevent More Gynecologic Cancers Than We Do Today?
Devyanshi Dixit, Program Manager at CLS Event and Publication and Conference Manager at the 12th Global Summit on Gynecology, shared on LinkedIn:
“Could We Prevent More Gynecologic Cancers Than We Do Today?
What if the future of gynecologic cancer care isn’t only about finding cancer earlier… but about stopping more cancers before they begin?
It may be possible.
Some gynecologic cancers already give us opportunities to intervene early.
- Cervical cancer
HPV vaccination + appropriate screening + treatment of precancerous lesions can prevent many cases before invasive cancer develops.
- Endometrial cancer
Metabolic health, obesity prevention, and recognizing abnormal uterine bleeding can create opportunities for earlier risk reduction and diagnosis.
- Ovarian cancer
This remains much harder. There is currently no recommended routine screening test for average-risk women, making risk assessment, genetic counseling when appropriate, and awareness of symptoms particularly important.
- Vulvar and vaginal cancers
Some are associated with HPV and other identifiable risk factors, creating opportunities for prevention and early detection.
But prevention isn’t just about one test.
The next generation of gynecologic cancer prevention could combine:
- Genetic and molecular risk assessment
- HPV vaccination and infection prevention
- Biomarkers and liquid biopsy research
- AI-assisted risk prediction
- Advanced imaging
- Personalized screening strategies
- Lifestyle and metabolic health interventions
- Earlier recognition of warning signs
The biggest shift?
Moving from:
‘Does she have cancer?’
to:
‘What is her risk – and can we intervene before cancer develops?’
