Devyanshi Dixit: 5 Things People Get Wrong About IVF
Devyanshi Dixit, Program Manager at CLS Event and Publication and Conference Manager at the 12th Global Summit on Gynecology, shared on LinkedIn:
“5 Things People Get Wrong About IVF․
IVF is widely discussed.
But many people still have the wrong idea about what it actually involves.
1.՛’IVF guarantees a baby’ – Myth.
IVF can help overcome certain fertility barriers, but success varies with factors such as age, egg and sperm quality, embryo factors, and individual health.
2. ‘IVF is only for women who can’t conceive naturally.’ – Not quite.
IVF may be considered for blocked fallopian tubes, severe male-factor infertility, ovulatory disorders, endometriosis, unexplained infertility, and other situations.
3. ‘IVF means you have to use donor eggs.’ – Myth.
IVF can use a patient’s own eggs and partner/donor sperm, depending on the circumstances.
4. ‘IVF is a single procedure.’ – Myth.
It is a multi-step process involving ovarian stimulation, monitoring, egg retrieval, fertilization, embryo development, and embryo transfer or freezing.
5. ‘If IVF doesn’t work once, it will never work.’ – Myth.
One unsuccessful cycle does not determine future outcomes. The reasons for an unsuccessful cycle can be evaluated and future treatment may be adjusted.
The Bigger Picture
IVF isn’t a guarantee.
It isn’t a last resort for everyone.
And it isn’t the same experience for every patient.
It is a complex field of reproductive medicine that continues to evolve through embryology, genetics, cryopreservation, laboratory science, and personalized treatment strategies.
The better we understand IVF, the more we can move beyond myths – and toward informed fertility care.
