Sara Shikhman: Infertility Doesn’t Care How Hard You Work
Sara Shikhman, Managing Partner at Lengea Law, shared on LinkedIn:
“6 years of infertility.
3 egg retrievals.
2 IVF clinics.
4 embryo transfers.
2 hysteroscopies.
2 uterine biopsies.
2 mock cycles.
1 miscarriage.
2 chemical pregnancies.
2 potential surrogates rejected by IVF clinics.
4 surrogacy agencies with multi-year waitlists.
Hundreds of pills and injections.
$0 covered by insurance.
And no guarantee any of it would work.
Most people around me had no idea.
For six years, I built a law firm, grew a business, and showed up for everyone else.
I’m a lawyer. When the obvious path doesn’t work, I find another one.
But infertility doesn’t care how hard you work. Or how successful you are. Or what your timeline is.
When four agencies told us to wait years, I stopped waiting. I built my own process to find a surrogate.
It worked. An extraordinary woman carried our son.
On October 13, Michael was born. 8 pounds, 14 ounces. 21 inches.
I’m sharing this because infertility is mostly invisible. You never know what the person across the table is carrying. And so many families can’t afford to keep going the way we could.
If you’re going through IVF or thinking about surrogacy, my inbox is open.
Six years. And then, finally, Michael.”
