Shant Apelian: Narrative Review on Fertility Preservation for Patients Undergoing in Pelvic Malignancy Treatment
Shant Apelian, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Yale School of Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper he co-authored with colleagues, published in IJGO:
“Excited to share our recently published narrative review in the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics (IJGO), the official journal of FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics).
‘Fertility preservation for patients undergoing pelvic malignancy treatment: Current strategies, emerging approaches, and clinical considerations.’
In this review, we highlight:
- Established and emerging fertility preservation strategies, including novel ovarian- and uterus-focused techniques.
- A structured, individualized clinical algorithm to guide fertility preservation decisions based on cancer type, planned treatment, and patient-specific factors across different clinical settings.
- The importance of early counseling and multidisciplinary collaboration in providing personalized oncofertility care.
The key takeaway: Fertility preservation should be considered early in cancer care, with an individualized approach that balances oncologic safety and reproductive goals.
Grateful to all my co-authors for their collaboration and contributions to this work!”
