Melvin Sanicas, Global Medical Affairs Vaccine Lead at Bavarian Nordic, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“New MPOX publication in The Lancet
- Mpox infection (MPXV clade I) during hashtag#pregnancy in the DRC is linked to high rates of fetal loss and congenital infection, with the greatest risk in the first trimester. The pooled prospective cohort provides strong evidence of vertical transmission, including placental infection and neonatal mpox-like lesions, though no maternal deaths were observed.
- Overall, the study reinforces mpox as a major congenital infection threat and highlights the need to prioritize pregnant women in mpox hashtag#prevention, surveillance, and care, particularly in endemic and epidemic settings.
