” In a large national cohort from Finland (over 1.2 million births), SSRI exposure was linked to:
- Lower risks of very preterm birth and low birth weight
- Higher risk of neonatal adaptation symptoms (eg, breathing problems, low 5-minute Apgar, neonatal care)
- Persistent increased risk of gestational diabetes
Takeaway: SSRI use during pregnancy has complex, independent effects — balancing maternal mental health benefits with neonatal adaptation considerations.
