Reem Prince: Marked Unilateral Femoral Shortening Seen at 22 Weeks of Gestation
Reem Prince, Radiology consultant at TechnoScan, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Interesting fetal skeletal anomaly encountered during a routine anomaly scan.
GA: 22+3 weeks
Marked unilateral femoral shortening:
- Right femur: 20.6 mm
- Left femur: 34.8 mm
The shortened femur demonstrates preserved mineralization without obvious bowing. No additional skeletal abnormalities or thoracic hypoplasia were identified.

What would be your leading diagnosis?
- Isolated femoral hypoplasia?
- Proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD)?
- Other considerations?
I would appreciate hearing colleagues’ thoughts and experience with similar prenatal cases.”
