Alessandro Messina: Can the Clinical Environment Change How Patients Experience Office Hysteroscopy?

Alessandro Messina, Medical Specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Degli Infermi Hospital, shared on LinkedIn:

“Can the clinical environment itself change how patients experience office hysteroscopy?

I’m pleased to share that our work on the VISION-HYST randomized controlled pilot trial is now featured in Fertility News.

The study explores a simple but increasingly relevant question in outpatient gynecology:

Is optimizing analgesia enough, or should we also rethink the environment in which office hysteroscopy is performed?

In VISION-HYST, we investigated whether a simple modification of the visual environment, integrated into the hysteroscopy room alongside nitrous oxide analgesia, could influence procedural pain.

Our findings suggest that patient-centered office hysteroscopy may go beyond instruments and pharmacological analgesia.

  • Attention
  • Environment
  • Communication
  • Analgesia
  • Patient-centered care

All may contribute to the overall procedural experience.

Very pleased to see our research discussed on Fertility News, and grateful to all the colleagues who contributed to the VISION-HYST project.”
